Knoydart Stool Making Course - 4 places
Join the Wood Knoydart making team to learn the art of green woodworking and make your very own 3-legged rustic stool using homegrown Knoydart timber. At this hands-on one day workshop you will get to grips with the tools, techniques and processes of green woodworking and rustic furniture making whether it’s all new to you or you’ve done it before. Guided by the Wood Knoydart team you will craft your own piece of furniture from green roundwood and a precut top using a side axe, drawknife, tenon cutter, drill, japanese saw, wood carving knives and other tools. Working outside at Knoydart Forest Trust’s forest workshop in Inverie you will be immersed in the fabric of our community woodland. The workshop will start at 10am and run to around 4pm. Tea, coffee and snacks will be on offer. We ask all participants to bring lunch and wear warm working clothes and suitable footwear. Suitable for 16+ year olds.

Pete Monaghan comes to Glencoe @ Dragon's Tooth Clubhouse
May 8 @ 7:00 pm – May 10 @ 4:00 pm

2 + days relaxed art course on the stunning West Coast of Scotland, staying in the renowned “Riverbeds wee lodges” luxury accommodation with hot tub, and all led by the inspirational teacher, Pete Monaghan. The Course – Loosening the Line. Beginning with representational drawing we will develop a move toward a freer and looser line through drawing exercises and identifying line qualitites. We will look at techniques that help us transfer our line dawings into paintings whilst retaining the energy of a sketch. With a strong focus on composition we will talk about viewpoint, size, shape , form and pattern. About Pete. Pete Monaghan was born in 1961. He is a second generation Irish contemporary artist working from studios in Aberystwyth and southern Germany. He holds an MA in Fine Art from Aberystwyth University where he presently tutors on the Lifelong Learning Programme. Grounded in solid drawing technique he works in acrylics on wood panel using crayons, markers, collage and spray paint. His subject matter is mainly vernacular architecture and often retains portions of each painting as drawn elements reflecting the fragility and temporality of the structure. He considers his work part representaiton, part visceral interpretation. “My work always begins with sketching on location. Subsequently redrawing in the studio in order to interpret and understand. Only when I have drawn sufficiently do I feel the freedom to splash and pour paint, enticing abstraction entering into a dialogue of controlling and letting go.
