No description can re-create the impact of seeing Glencoe for the first time. It has long been one of the most famous places in Scotland, known equally for its awe-inspiring views and sorrowful past.

Glencoe is a place of history, wildlife, adventure and myth. The mountains were formed through violent volcanic eruptions, and then sculpted by massive glaciers. Fingal, the legendary Celtic hero, is said to have made his home among these towering mountains, while his poet son, Ossian, found inspiration in the landscape.

On 13 February 1692, 38 men, women and children of the MacDonald clan were murdered by a regiment of soldiers (acting on behalf of the government) whom they had welcomed into their homes. The tragedy of the Glencoe Massacre still has the power to evoke powerful emotions.

The Trust has cared for Glencoe since 1935. We work to maintain footpaths, look after the fragile biodiversity and keep the landscape as precious and wild as it was when it first came into our care.

Are Whales Recovering in Scotland? @ BEST - Business Enterprise Solutions & Training | Fort William | United Kingdom

Whale biologist Dr Conor Ryan has worked with several UK-based NGOs and universities, researching whales and ways to protect them. In this not to be missed webinar, he will consider historic whaling in Scotland and the modern day threats that whales now face here. He will discuss conservation efforts and the public’s role in collecting important data about whale migration routes. He will draw on his work in the Cape Verde humpback breeding grounds to discuss what threats our whales face when they migrate. He will consider why they come to our waters in the first place and how we can better protect them here. On the question of potential recovery, Conor argues that we need more data and a better understanding of current threats before we can be assured. There will be a question and answer section at the end. Tickets are £7.50 each and can be booked by clicking this link – whc.uhi.ac.uk/business/best-courses/#widget=course?course_code=WHNAAWRZ
