Taking part in a Wild Yoga Glencoe retreat is done at the participants own risk. All yoga classes are taught by fully qualified & insured yoga instructors. Outdoor adventures might present some physical and mental challenges, and carries with it the potential for death, serious injury and property loss. The risks may include but are not limited to: actions by other people, slipping on wet surfaces, tripping or falling, burns, hypothermia, lack of hydration, weather and/or other natural conditions. The event hosts assume no responsibility for anyone attending this event. The event host will not be held responsible for any accident, injury or loss occurring as a result of any event or in connection with travel to such event, however caused.
When you book a Wild Yoga Glencoe event, you indicate that you accept these conditions and accept that no legal liability is accepted by the event host should an accident or injury occur.
Participants in Wild Yoga Glencoe events are reminded that outdoor activities need specialist equipment (boots, waterproofs, etc) and we do not provide these. Participants are responsible for assessing their own risk, the safety of themselves and the suitability of any equipment used. Wild Stravaigs are led by a fully qualified and insured Mountain Leader who will take final responsibility for route choice on the day taking into account the weather conditions and fitness of the group. While accepting no responsibility or liability, for outdoor events, the event host may, at their discretion, not admit you to join the walk or other event if in their opinion you are ill-equipped for the terrain and weather conditions.
This three-day retreat is based in the spectacular Scottish Highlands and will combine traditional Zen practices with mountain walking. Friday and Saturday will involve spending most of each day hiking into high mountain areas (weather permitting) with a shorter low-level walk on the last day. Previous experience of hillwalking or retreats is not required but a reasonable level of fitness is essential and some experience of retreats will be helpful.
Our days will begin and end with meditation. After breakfast and making up our packed lunches, most of our time will be devoted to walking in the mountains together as a group. We will use this as the focus for our Zen practice, walking with extended periods of silent reflection as well as incorporating some simple rituals into each journey into the mountain environment. Each of the day’s walks will be led by a qualified Mountain Leader who will hold the final decision for route choice on the day, dependent on the weather conditions. Walks may last for up to six hours. All walks will be on established paths but they are rocky and rough at times with steep drops. Ascent (and descent) may be up to 800 metres in a day – the equivalent of climbing up and down the London Eye six times.
The Scottish Highlands are famous for being able to produce ‘four seasons in one day’ and participants must be suitably equipped for a full day in the hills. Minimum essentials include: waterproof jacket with a hood, waterproof trousers, thermal layers, a sturdy pair of walking boots, hat, gloves, water-bottle or flask and rucksack. A full list will be issued to all participants.
All meals will be vegetarian/vegan. We will have a shared work rota to help with food preparation and washing up and we will make up our own packed lunches each day. The retreat is limited to 13 places.
